Building Sun into Northwest Homes
Sequim Sunroom
The national award winning sunroom addition was only one of many things the homeowners wanted to accomplish with this whole house remodel. The original home was very dark with wood paneling on the high cathedral ceilings and small windows in each room. It lacked much needed natural light and failed to take advantage of the sweeping views of the water. While keeping the view as the focal point, the 12 foot sunroom addition was constructed off the kitchen to exploit the often sparse Northwest daylight and capitalize on the extraordinary view. The sunroom was constructed of clear vertical grain Douglas Fir and commercial grade glass panels with a protective coating for protection from UV rays as well as protection against heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. The custom sunroom was created with a proprietary glazing system that eliminates leaks, even in the rainy and often blustery Northwest weather. It stands at 18 feet at the highest point and gives one the sense of the outdoors without actually stepping foot outside. The space below the new sunroom addition was converted to storage for the homeowners recreational gear and exercise equipment, as well as a great place to store firewood.
